Every conversion and every structural development creates new spaces for living and working. Things get particularly exciting where urban growth meets established structures. Binz is one such example: a district with a past, a present - and plenty of potential for the future.

From the edge to the center
Zurich is a city that has grown steadily – not only through urban densification, but also through the incorporation of formerly independent towns. In the two major waves of incorporation in 1893 and 1934, the city area was significantly expanded. As a result, former outlying communities became independent districts, each with their own history and character. Many of these districts have rural origins, an industrial past or were originally purely residential areas.
Today, Zurich presents itself as a network of diverse districts that are clearly different in character and specifically appeal to different target groups. The city is divided into 12 urban districts, which in turn are subdivided into 34 independent neighbourhoods – according to the motto: The district organizes and the neighbourhood lives.
One particular example is the Binz neighbourhood. It lies between these two poles and is characterized by its evolved identity. Creative use, historic buildings and modern forms of living are harmoniously combined here. Binz has developed into a sought-after location not only in terms of space, but also in terms of content – with a balanced mix of living, working and urban life. The mix is particularly exciting: the new vibrancy blends seamlessly with the established neighborhood. Long-established Zurich residents shape the neighborhood just as much as new residents. This interplay lends Binz authenticity – and makes it a place that is alive and constantly evolving.
A neighborhood between past and future
The history of Binz goes back a long way. Once part of the independent municipality of Wiedikon, the area was incorporated in 1893 and has belonged to the city of Zurich ever since. Originally, clay was mined in the Binz – a key raw material for the town’s flourishing brickworks. The area was part of a productive network that helped shape the construction of modern Zurich. After the end of clay extraction, open spaces and a sculpted landscape remained – an ideal breeding ground for new ideas.
In the following decades, the district developed into a functional, albeit inconspicuous, industrial area. Workshops, warehouses and small businesses settled here. Its proximity to the Zurich-Wiedikon freight station made Binz a practical location for trade and logistics, and several large industrial companies took advantage of the location.
From the 1980s onwards, Binz slowly began to change. Empty halls became stages for cultural projects, temporary clubs, studios or rehearsal rooms. The Binz became a symbol of creative appropriation – a place where urban development was not only planned, but lived.
“Living in the Binz district means being part of a lively, open and future-oriented urban space. The mixture of closeness to nature, urban comfort, cultural diversity and sustainable aspirations makes Binz one of the most exciting places to live in Zurich.” Romana Frei
In the morning on the Sihl, in the evening on the Uetliberg
The location of Binz offers far more than urban infrastructure – it combines city life with nature. If you take a morning stroll along the Sihl or cycle towards the city center, you will experience Zurich from its relaxed side: green, open and surprisingly quiet. During the lunch break, the nearby Allmend Brunau area with its wide meadows, sports fields and jogging trails beckons. At the weekend, the district is a perfect starting point for excursions into the Sihl Valley or to Lake Zurich. And if you want to clear your head after work, you can be at the foot of the Uetliberg in just a few minutes. The city’s local mountain not only offers panoramic views, exercise and fresh air, but also places to stop for a break – be it at sunset on the ridge path or over a glass of wine on the terrace of the Uto Kulm. Binz manages to combine an urban pulse with a quality of life close to nature.
Living space to suit your taste – at home in Binz
Living space is in high demand in the city of Zurich – and property is particularly scarce. This makes it all the more pleasing that a high-quality new building is being constructed on Eichstrasse in Binz, combining modern living with urban quality of life. Clear architecture, different floor plans and a well thought-out choice of materials create the basis for a home that adapts to your life – whether as a stylish retreat, a couple’s apartment with a view or a comfortable property for the next phase of your life.
What makes this project special is that you can already experience your future home virtually and design it individually. With the new home configurator, you can see directly on the screen how your home will look in your favorite color. Choose from exclusive tiles and harmonious color schemes – and give every room your own personal signature. This turns a new build into your very own home – tailored to your style, comfort and personality. And in the middle of a district that is alive, growing and inspiring: the Binz.
