Schloss Eugensberg is sold.

In consultation with the creditors’ representatives, the bankruptcy office of the Canton of Thurgau sold Eugensberg Castle, including the inventory and all associated properties – with the exception of two smaller agricultural properties on the periphery – to the interested party with the best offer on March 1, 2019.  

The proceeds from the sale of Schloss Eugensberg will flow into the Rolf Erb bankruptcy estate, as agreed by the court, and will benefit the creditors. The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the sale.

The buyer is 38-year-old Christian Schmid, who intends to live in the castle with his wife for the next few decades. Mr. and Mrs. Schmid currently live in central Switzerland and work primarily in the IT sector. The buyer intends to preserve and maintain the castle and its inventory in its current state. The sold castle property also includes the park, the forest, the agricultural land with the estate, the hamlet and Sandegg Castle as well as the bathhouse on Untersee. The hiking trail over Sandegg, including the viewing platform there, will remain accessible to hikers. The buyer is aware of the special significance of this entire property and wishes to preserve it as far as possible.

Both the Salenstein municipal council and the relevant cantonal representatives welcome this solution and all the necessary approvals have been obtained. The responsible department head of the Thurgau bankruptcy office, Martin Wenk, and the representative of the creditors, the Frauenfeld lawyer Matthias Hotz, are pleased that they have managed to find a good solution with this successful sale of Eugensberg Castle in good cooperation with the commissioned estate agent Ginesta Immobilien AG.
